I'm assuming that it's a functioning drive as it was installed, but am I wrong? When I allow this, my drives show up and are accessible as I explained in my last post. The Tutorial worked perfectly for me and was a real time saver. Your page was the only thing that gave me hope since I can now actually access my hard drive.

No go. Ensure that the latest drivers are installed for the hardware in the computer. I've tried everything from Device Manager to reboot /reinstall and nothing works unless I restart the computer then the computer only reads the external hard drive for 20 mins or so.
