any thoughts? Not related but if you try and use the R2 server as a terminal server and connect to it with dual screens you now get dual screen remote desktop which is Checked WORKGROUP name, DNS, router settings, Windows services. Lousy testing if you ask me.

The issue is not related to NetBIOS, Wins, or DNS - it has to do with how the OS is remembering invalid Share names. Can't Map Network Drive But Can Ping When file CIFS stops responding correctly, do any other services also stop working correctly (does the server host DHCP, WINS, DNS, AD, etc?). I do not know what's wrong with this picture. I have disabled it for now to see if that make a difference.
I think there's something going on with a core service, but I just can't put my finger on it. Can Ping Server But Cannot Browse Shares Very temporamental and no idea what is causing it. you can print it in the command prompt by ipconfig even if there is no network connection. is it an incompatibility problem ? i am trying to replicate my server drives on the road.. Notsureif this is going to work around the problemor not.
I learned that several other individuals also have special debugging code installed by MS to narrow this down, but nobody's issue has come back yet. Then they put in a ticket and have to wait til we pick it up during working hours and do the reboot. Other servers that were W2K3 I could map to fine. to use the FQDN for the computer rather than the NetBios/Computer name. Still, this doesnt help with the solution. Or a local login? I'm trying to limit my changes per restart, so that I can accurately determine the cause. The cmd screen cleared and left me with a flashing cursor.
