Windows 7 Cannot See Ubuntu Share

I've read a lot of tutorials and messages while trying to get my Linux share to be accessible from Windows on the network, and yours (link #6) is the most helpful navigate here

When I open the Network icon in Windows 7, I see my server there and I can open it and access the associated folder shares. Sometimes these are inaccessible to the Windows machine and sometimes they're accessible. How can I investigate what's causing this?
