Anyway my Win10 now does see the WD device on my network on ethernet. I have scoured the internet and none of the suggestions are working for me. My solution is: 1. I set it to something else and then set it back to WORKGROUP. http://macinstruct.net/windows-10/windows-7-cannot-stop-usb-device.html
Once the items are installed you should see the NAS. THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH for posting this ! My problem was that the Synology NAS was intermittently disappearing from my Windows Explorer. Once the items are installed you should see the NAS.

i have a NAS set up to my Windows 7 machine (and Vista machines) and it works, no problem. Isn't it like any other network share ( example a network Printer) .
While this is not a universal fix, it's worth trying if you are using a PIN to logon.
